Investment Criteria

We are not currently accepting unsolicited grant proposals. Potential investees must meet each of the following criteria,

√ Creating a more just and sustainable economy

You are working in the United States on one or more of the following strategies.

Expanding asset ownership
Shifting who owns assets and gets the upside of asset appreciation (e.g., inclusive real estate, employee ownership, homeownership)
Increasing access to capital
Supporting financial intermediaries that who provide capital to businesses and individuals who haven’t had easy access to affordable credit
Promoting quality jobs
Improving worker economic opportunity and wellbeing (e.g., higher wages, profit sharing, apprenticeships, employee benefits, and democratic governance.) 
Advancing climate justice
Finding solutions to the climate crisis that are fair and equitable.
√ Systems Change

You take a systematic approach, potentially including policy work, public funding, wrap-around services, technical assistance, and ecosystem building. 

√ Effective Team

Your team has a history of alignment with our mission, has the necessary skills to execute your strategy, includes people with relevant lived experiences, and has experience working together with positive outcomes. 

√ Fair Financing

Your initiative shares the upside and financial risk appropriately across stakeholders. 

√ Likely Success

You have experienced mentors/advisors to fill gaps in the primary execution team and to help navigate challenges. You have achieved fundraising success and/or a strong plan to do so. You have strong relationships with your beneficiary community, borrowers, and other key execution partners.

√ None of the following exclusions apply.
We do not invest directly in individual coops/businesses.
We are not making new Venture Capital (VC) commitments.
We are not taking unsolicited proposals outside of the United States and Canada. 
We do not fund academic research.

We will review your work against the criteria listed above.

If all criteria are met, we will create an Impact Assessment for your organization and share the results with you. We will initially use publicly-available information, and then reach out to you with questions as needed.

We value input from other mission-aligned investors. We often share pipeline and impressions with each other.  If you can introduce us to other investors, that will make our research more efficient.

If moving forward, we will reach out to discuss open questions.

If we decide to fund your work, we will also look for opportunities to share with other potential funders.
